Dave Robertson has written to the Environment Agency to request a meeting to discuss the issues of flooding in Kings Bromley.

Mr Robertson also raised the issue in Parliament earlier this year.

Below is the text of his letter to the Environment Agency.

Dear Philip Duffy,

I hope you are well.

I’m writing to you on the subject of flooding in Kings Bromley, Staffordshire.

Kings Bromley is an area with well-known flooding issues.

The village is at risk of flooding due to a number of factors, including the following:

• Poor existing drainage infrastructure

• Lack of and poor maintenance of drainage ditches alongside agricultural land bordering roads (A515, A513, Crawley Lane, Common Lane and Shaw Lane)

• Proximity to the River Trent

• Increased incidents of prolonged heavy rainfall, especially in the autumn, winter and spring seasons.

• High water table associated with the River Trent

There have been six major flooding incidents since 2000. These incidents occurred in 2000, 2007, 2012, 2020, 2024 and 2025 and caused the following issues:

• Closure of the A515 to both the north and south of the village (February 2020)

• Closure of the A515 to the south of the village (2007, 2012, 2020 2024, 2025)

• Closure of the A513 to the west of the village (2007, 2012, 2020, 2024, 2025)

• Closure of Crawley Lane and Shaw Lane (2012, 2020, 2024, 2025)

• Flooding of properties on the A515, Shaw Lane and Crawley Lane (2007, 2012, 2020, 2024, 2025)

On a number of these occasions, flooding has seen Kings Bromley effectively cut off.

I want to meet with the Environment Agency to discuss how we can prevent this from happening and protect the village – as well as how much funding is required. Please let me know when you would be available for such a meeting.

Kind regards,

Dave Robertson MP

MP for Lichfield, Burntwood, and The Villages
